Billy Main was a fabulous entertainer and a great friend. Billy was born in Scotland and was the only child of Jean and David Main, they settled in Hamilton,Ontario when Billy was only a boy. Billy loved music from a very early age and his Mum & Dad always encouraged him to bring all of his friends over to play in the basement. He performed with many bands over the years including the wonderful Dublin Corporation and he had a great time playing the local scene with his good friend Bobby who passed away suddenly in 2005.
From then on Billy played solo and occasionally encouraged Margaret to join him on stage for a love song or two.
He is lovingly remembered by all of his family and friends from all over as a man who could make anyone laugh, who allowed us all to "be ourselves" and who entertained us all with his unbeleivable talent, most recently at the Tartan Tourie in Burlington, the Legion in Hamilton and the Scottish Club & Clock & Hen in Brampton to name only a few. Billy was married at a young age and although the couple separated many years ago Billy & Irene remained friends. They had one daughter Catherine together of whom Billy was very proud.
Although Billy still had strong ties to Hamilton and Burlington and especially to his beloved Mother Jean and his Auntie Betty, in the last eight years, Billy's life revolved around the love of his life Margaret Devine of Brampton "His Margaret" (or "Miss Daisy" as he lovingly called her)- they were soul mates. Billy dedicated "Your The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me" on one of his CD's and usually dedicated one song each night to her when he performed. You can hear it by playing the CD "If I Never Sing Another Song". or clicking on it here.
Margaret will never be the same without her Billy!
Billy is missed more than he could ever have imagined by all who knew him including Peter & Val; John & Margaret; Ron & Rose Mary; John & Sandy; Ethna & Danny; Doug & Cathy; Lorraine & Dave; Debbie & Gary; all of his friends from the clubs & pubs including his "Tartan Tourie Family" & all of our families.
He was a big man and he left a big void when he was Gone Too Soon.
Billy passed away after a courageous battle for his life at the age of 56.

Tributes

I was a pal of Bill's when my family emigrated to Canada in 1966 and returned to Scotland in 1969. We used to play the guitar together along with Davy Davren and John Mulligan. I was so sad to hear of his death as he was a very talented guitar player and singer. I would love to hear from Davy or John and perhaps send a few photo's. I have been married to Marylin now for 38 years and have 2 sons Lee and Steven My Dad died age 66 and my brother Tom died aged 57, he was a pal of John Davren, Davy's brother. My mum is still living and age 86, who were pal's of David and Jean.

Kind regards
George Grant

Listen To Him Sing

If you are visiting Billy's tribute here today
Be sure to click and listen to him singing before you go away
Then please light a little candle to let him know that you're a fan
I'm sure he still sings in Heaven, cause I know he can.

Billy recorded these songs as part of a tribute album to his beloved
Margaret Devine in 2007.
Margaret passed away April 1st, 2010 so they are together again.

Play with Rainbow, wear the Rainbow
Ride the Rainbow high and low
Spread the colour of Rainbow wherever you go
Paint with Rainbow, create a magnificent show
Share Rainbow with neighbour, family and friend
Give the needy a helping hand, reach out and extend
Dance with Rainbow, sing with Rainbow
Let the Rainbow shine through
Rainbow comes from Sun Shine and rain seven colours true
It paints the sky with seven colors and dazzling hue
It bridges the Earth and the beyond for a short moment
Arched, end to end, never changes, same as past and present
I wonder if there is Rainbow in the other world
Where we go when we pass on
Is there day, night or dawn
What is a Rainbow, how it is born
